'New OTPs': Healercharm B-day gift

First deviation of one of my favourite months of the year ! My sincerest apologies to Jussy/ for taking so long with this. This is a present for her belated 26th birthday. Her list here detailed a bunch of stuff that she had wanted and what's better than drawing two of her desired pokemon pairings ? I have grown so fond of these ones that I made a whole backstory to this picture!

Anyway, I had a lot of fun making this (so much background experimentation haha) ! This is essentially a massive thank you to you Jussy! You’re a great watcher and artist, and you have had some of the best comments/compliments someone like me could ever ask for . Hope you enjoy!

“This story takes place in the region of Kalos, a fantastical place known for their abundance of mythical creatures called fairies. But, the focus of this tale will instead be on a few of the starters that a human trainer could potentially have.

Sylvia was, evidently, an odd-looking Braixen. Ever since she hatched as a Fennekin, she has had a furry birthmark on her left cheek. It was always noticeable, a purplish heart that marked her as different. She was, as those with unique features often are, labelled as an outcast. Even with her species' popularity, Sylvia was never given to a trainer. Though she was hurt multiple times and believed herself to be ugly, Sylvia never turned bitter. She instead became a deeply compassionate girl who vowed to be better than her tormentors.

Henry too, was a pokemon that was looked down upon. The Quilladin already had it rough, being part of the least popular starter species in the region. Onlookers saw his stout stature and typing as something to despise. They even thought his quiet nature to be a sign of weakness. Like Sylvia, Henry never fought his bullies. He simply continued on with his life.

One fateful day, Henry was being picked on by a group of Braixens. The same Braixens that had hurt Sylvia for so long. He knew, logically, that he wouldn’t be able to fight back against a group of pokemon that were not only in greater numbers but had type advantages. As he tried to persuade the group to leave him alone, Sylvia saw the Quilladin being hurt by her tormentors. Refusing to be a bystander, she stood up for Henry, and made sure the attackers would only focus on her and never hurt him again. Before Henry could even thank her, Sylvia quickly left the scene, too shy to speak to the pokemon she had just saved.

Henry was a pokemon that did not believe in fairy tales; especially not in the concept soul-mates, love at first sight or true love. He found such things to be corny and illogical. But he couldn’t deny his growing fascination towards the Braixen that had decided to help him. Him; a simple lowly Quilladin… Surely he couldn’t care about a pokemon that he had just met… right?

Since that day, the pair couldn’t stop thinking about each other. From afar, both the “ugly” Quilladin and Braixen watched out for each other. They soon realized that they were not so different from each other. Indeed, they were both individuals that were seen as unloveable just because of who they were. It was because of this, that the two pokemon started to fall for each other.

A few months later, Sylvia was given some happy news; a human wanted to have her. To participate in contests out of all things! Though overjoyed for Sylvia, Henry was also devastated. He was going to be stuck at the training facility while Sylvia, the Braixen he had grown to love, was going to leave him behind. 

Believing that this would be the final chance of ever seeing her again, the soft-spoken Quilladin plucked up enough courage to finally approach Sylvia. Through a series of stutters, he explained to her of how she had been unable to leave his mind. Her compassion, her bravery, even her very voice were things that were constantly running through his mind. He finally confessed his feelings, exclaiming that he, Henry the lowly Quilladin, thought that her birthmark did not stop her from being the most beautiful pokemon in the world to him.

Overcome with emotion, Sylvia’s shyness dissipated and she kissed Henry, returning his deep affection. He was too shocked to say anything more, very much light-headed from Sylvia’s confession and warm kiss. The pair departed afterwards, promising to keep in touch over mail.

Years passed, and the pair never lost contact. Sylvia evolved into a Delphox quickly under her new loving care. Though she had become very content with her new life, with no more bullies messing around with her, she still missed Henry. 

As she went through the Lumiose supermarket one afternoon, Sylvia heard a strangely similar voice:

<Sylvia?! It really is you! I can recognize you anywhere…>

Instead of the adorable Quilladin that she had first fallen in love with, Sylvia saw a handsome Chesnaught before her. It was indeed Henry, fully evolved with now a devilish smirk on his face.

<I never thought it would be possible... but you are more ravishing than when you were as a Braixen. Now... to return the  favour…>

Grabbing Sylvia and sweeping her off her feet, the Chesnaught gave the Delphox a passionate kiss. All of his desire for his beloved had finally poured out, putting Sylvia into a lovestruck daze. She felt heat growing behind her as her wand burst into flame. She learned, in that moment, that Henry was quite the amorous kisser!

And from that moment on, Henry refused to leave Sylvia's side. With some persuasion, Sylvia's owner took him in as a useful worker in their household. The pair continue to live happily together, two individuals brought together by compassion and the struggle to overcome their low self-esteem. Who says outcasts can never find love?" ~
